Senior Living & Multi-Family Housing

Updated: Sep 8, 2022

Multi-family housing presents a convenient lifestyle package for Americans reaching their later years. On-site amenities, maintenance teams, and community events create a suburban atmosphere of ease and relaxation while remaining relatively close to metropolitan centers. Houston offers a host of suburban communities that fit this desirable profile. Just to mention one small example, with two new senior living apartment complexes opening in Missouri City, we’re witnessing the ongoing trend to accommodate Baby Boomers and Gen Xers as they seek more age-specific housing, with the Missouri City project catering to tenants over 55.

Baby Boomers and older Gen Xers are looking to down-size. They want the ability to lead a simpler life that allows for a “lock-and-leave” lifestyle for traveling. Rather than worry about a large, task-filled home when planning an extended getaway, seniors can enjoy the benefits of an easy to maintain apartment that comes with far less housekeeping to consider.

It certainly makes sense that more of these multi-family structures would emerge in the suburbs of Houston, the 4th largest city in America. Those over 55 want easy access to medical care and a menu of choices for not only general practitioners but medical specialists. The Texas Medical Center, centrally located within the 610 loop and near the Southwest Freeway, offers top-of-the-line medical care yet is easily accessible to suburban Houstonians throughout the city. Living in the suburbs affords Baby Boomers and Gen Xers a quieter setting with the ability to choose from to a wide range of medical options.

Another important reason to stay relatively close to the metropolitan center is for the arts, exhibitions, and theater options available. Houston welcomes many touring companies from Broadway. From the award-winning Houston Grand Opera to the Alley Theatre, the oldest theater in Houston, the Bayou City offers many venue options with exceptional shows. For example, the largest quilting show in America is held annually in Houston and attracts over 55,000 attendees and exhibitors from 35 countries.

More and more senior living in apartment communities is a logical, growing trend we will see in and around the metropolitan cities of Texas in the coming years as Baby Boomers and Gen Xers look for the perfect mix of suburban comfort and metropolitan accessibility.
